# Abutment Earth Pressure \[CSB]

The Abutment Earth Pressure workflow item is used to apply horizontal earth pressure loads on abutment walls. It supports both active earth pressure and live load surcharge loading conditions.

## General

**Abutment:** Select the abutment on which the earth pressure will be applied.

**Stage:** Select the construction stage at which the earth pressure load is applied.

**Load Type \[Earth Pressure/Live Load Surcharge]:** Specify the type of earth pressure loading. "Earth Pressure" applies a linearly varying lateral pressure based on the soil's unit weight and the active pressure coefficient. "Live Load Surcharge" applies a uniform lateral pressure over the abutment wall height.

**Active Lateral Earth Pressure Coefficient (Ka):** The active lateral earth pressure coefficient used to calculate the horizontal pressure from the backfill soil.

**Backfill Soil Unit Weight:** The unit weight of the backfill soil behind the abutment.

**Heel Side Width:** The width of the heel side of the abutment footing. This parameter is only applicable when the Load Type is set to "Live Load Surcharge".

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.openbrim.org/templates/cable-stayed-bridge-workflow/loading-csb/loads-csb/earth-pressure-csb/abutment-earth-pressure-csb.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
