# Concrete Deck w/ Panels \[PIG]

This object models a composite bridge deck composed of **stay-in-place precast concrete deck panels (PCDPs)** spanning between adjacent precast-I-girders, with a **cast-in-place (CIP) topping** poured on top. The panels rest on **mortar bedding strips** placed along the top flange of each girder. The combined panel + topping acts as the structural deck for the composite section.

The object is identical to the standard [Concrete Deck](/templates/precast-i-girder-bridge-workflow/superstructure-pig/deck-pig/concrete-deck-pig.md) except for an additional **Panel** group that defines the panel and bedding geometry, plus two extra read-only outputs in **Quantities** that report panel and bedding volumes separately from the topping.

## General

All parameters in this section behave identically to the standard [Concrete Deck](/templates/precast-i-girder-bridge-workflow/superstructure-pig/deck-pig/concrete-deck-pig.md#general). The longitudinal extent of the deck is defined by the support lines selected here; the transverse profile is defined by the cross-section assigned in the **Properties → Sections** stage. Refer to the standard Concrete Deck page for full descriptions of:

* **Cross-Sections** (Cross Section Location, Offset From Support Line, Cross Section, Variation w/Next Segment)
* **Girders** — must be `@OBPGirderPrecastI` instances; panels span between adjacent girders in the list
* **Taper \[NO/YES]** and **Overhang Bottom Flat \[NO/YES]**
* **Material** — concrete material assigned to both the CIP topping and (currently) the panels
* **Deck Reinforcement Data** — station-dependent rebar layout

## Panel

This group defines the precast deck panel and bedding strip geometry. All four parameters apply uniformly across every panel placed between any two adjacent girders.

**Panel Thickness:** Thickness of the precast panel itself (the depth measured from the top of the bedding strip to the underside of the CIP topping). Typical values are 3.5 in to 4 in. The CIP topping thickness is computed as the total deck thickness from the cross-section minus this panel thickness.

**Panel Width Inside Haunch:** Horizontal distance the panel extends inward from the edge of the haunch (i.e. how far the panel laps onto the girder top flange beyond the bedding strip). Controls the bearing-length of the panel on each girder.

**Panel Chamfer:** Chamfer dimension applied to the bottom corners of the panel where it meets the bedding strip / girder. A value of `0` produces a square panel edge; non-zero values produce a 45° chamfer of that depth — used to ease detailing and reduce stress concentrations at the panel-bedding interface.

**Bedding Strip Width:** Width of the mortar bedding strip placed along each girder's top flange where the panel bears. Typical values are 1 in to 2 in. Bedding strips run continuously along the girder length.

## FEA

The FEA behavior of the composite deck is the same as the standard [Concrete Deck](/templates/precast-i-girder-bridge-workflow/superstructure-pig/deck-pig/concrete-deck-pig.md#fea). Panels and topping are not separately meshed — they are treated as a single composite shell using the assigned **Material** and total cross-section thickness. All Expansion Joint End Releases, Deck Property Overrides, Longitudinal/Transverse Boundary, Continuous at Start/End, Additional Mesh Lines, and Mesh Algorithm parameters behave as documented for the standard deck.

## 3D Settings

The 3D-only parameters (Curve Refinement, Initial / End Cantilever Length of Deck, Drip Notch, Right/Left Top/Bot Chamfer, Additional Deck Thickness, Barrier Region Width) behave identically to the standard [Concrete Deck](/templates/precast-i-girder-bridge-workflow/superstructure-pig/deck-pig/concrete-deck-pig.md#3d-settings). The 3D rendering shows three distinct surfaces: the CIP topping (light gray), the precast panels (medium gray), and the bedding strips (dark gray).

## Quantities

All quantity columns from the standard [Concrete Deck](/templates/precast-i-girder-bridge-workflow/superstructure-pig/deck-pig/concrete-deck-pig.md#quantities) (cross-section areas, perimeters, lengths, top surface area, widths, volume, weight, rebar quantities, material) are reported. Two **additional** read-only outputs are exposed:

**Volume - Panels:** Total volume of all precast panels in the deck, summed across every span and every panel-bay between adjacent girders. Excludes the CIP topping and bedding strips. (Read-only; expensive computation.)

**Volume - Bedding Strips:** Total volume of all mortar bedding strips along every girder, summed across every span. Excludes panels and topping. (Read-only; expensive computation.)

The standard **Volume** column reports the **CIP topping volume only** — to get the total deck concrete take-off, sum **Volume**, **Volume - Panels**, and **Volume - Bedding Strips**.

## Referencing Objects
