# Intermediate Diaphragm \[PIG]

Intermediate diaphragms placed between supports along a precast I-girder span.

## Intermediate Diaphragm

**Connected Girders:** Girders tied together by the intermediate diaphragm.

**Station \[Start/End]:** Station along the PGL at which the diaphragm is placed. May be specified as Start, End, or a numeric value.

**Diaphragm Station:** Numeric station along the PGL (measured from start-of-bridge) at which the diaphragm is placed. Only used when Station is not Start/End.

**Skew Angle:** In-plan rotation of the diaphragm. Positive rotates clockwise; negative counterclockwise. Only applicable when the station is a numeric value.

**Depth:** Vertical depth of the diaphragm.

**Thickness (Downstation):** Longitudinal thickness of the diaphragm on the downstation face. Use together with Thickness (Upstation) to model a tapered diaphragm.

**Thickness (Upstation):** Longitudinal thickness of the diaphragm on the upstation face. Use together with Thickness (Downstation) to model a tapered diaphragm.

**Additional Overhang Length Transverse Dir. (Left):** Distance from the leftmost girder centerline to the left edge of the diaphragm in the transverse direction.

**Additional Overhang Length Transverse Dir. (Right):** Distance from the rightmost girder centerline to the right edge of the diaphragm in the transverse direction.

**Material:** Concrete material assigned to the diaphragm.

## FEM

**Cap Connection \[Yes/No]:** When Yes, generates a FE connection between the diaphragm top and the pier-cap top.

**Cap Connection Type \[Rigid/Pin]:** Controls whether the cap connection is rigid or pinned.

**Deck Connection \[Yes/No]:** When Yes, generates a FE connection from the diaphragm top to the deck.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.openbrim.org/templates/precast-i-girder-bridge-workflow/superstructure-pig/diaphragms-pig/intermediate-diaphragm-pig.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
