Retaining Wall Earth Pressure (EH / LS) [RW]

Generates the lateral earth pressure acting on the wall stem — either the horizontal earth pressure (EH) from the retained soil, or the live load surcharge (LS) represented as an equivalent height of soil.

General

Wall Segments: The wall segments the earth pressure is applied to.

Stage: Construction stage at which the pressure is applied.

Load Type[Earth Pressure (EH)=0/Live Load Surcharge (LS)=1]: Selects which load is generated — the earth pressure from the retained soil, or the live load surcharge (default: Earth Pressure (EH)=0).

Active Earth Pressure Coefficient (Ka). Default 0.283 = (1-sin34)/(1+sin34).: Rankine active earth pressure coefficient. The default corresponds to a 34-degree friction angle (default: 0.283).

Backfill Soil Unit Weight (Caltrans default 120 pcf): Unit weight of the retained backfill soil (Caltrans default 120 pcf).

Live Load Surcharge Equivalent Soil Height (Caltrans default 2 ft = 24 in): Height of soil used to represent the live load surcharge. Applicable when Load Type is Live Load Surcharge (default: 24).
