# Strip Seal \[SIG]

A strip seal is an elastomeric (rubber-based) gasket used to prevent water and debris from infiltrating through expansion joints. It is typically used in combination with steel profiles and is designed to withstand traffic loads.

## General

**Approach Slab:** This parameter can be used to specify the approach slab for which the sleeper slab will be modeled.

**Strip Seal Orientation\[Transverse/Longitudinal]:** This parameter defines the orientation of the strip seal.

**Strip Seal Location\[Right/Left]:** This parameter defines the location of the strip seal.

**Sleeper Slab Head Wall:** This parameter is used to select the sleeper slab headwall object.

**Length:** This parameter specifies the length of the strip seal.

**Width (Normal to the edge of approach slab):** Width of the strip seal measured perpendicular to the approach-slab edge. Used together with **Length** to dimension the strip seal footprint.

**Joint Gap:** This parameter defines the joint gap distance.

## Left Strip Seal

**Depth:** This parameter can be used to specify the depth of the strip seal in the left direction.

**Width:** This parameter can be used to specify the width of the strip seal in the left direction.

**Length:** This parameter can be used to specify the length of the strip seal in the left direction.

**Offset:** This parameter can be used to specify the offset of the strip seal in the left direction.

**Depth Offset:** This parameter can be used to specify the depth offset of the strip seal in the left direction.

## Right Strip Seal

**Depth:** This parameter can be used to specify the depth of the strip seal in the right direction.

**Width:** This parameter can be used to specify the width of the strip seal in the right direction.

**Length:** This parameter can be used to specify the length of the strip seal in the right direction.

**Offset:** This parameter can be used to specify the offset of the strip seal in the right direction.

**Depth Offset:** This parameter can be used to specify the depth offset of the strip seal in the right direction.

## IFC

**Type:** The IFC entity type for BIM export. Default is IfcBridgePart.

**Predefined Type:** The IFC Predefined Type is specified using this parameter. Available options include:

* ABUTMENT
* DECK
* DECK\_SEGMENT
* FOUNDATION
* PIER
* PIER\_SEGMENT
* PYLON
* SUBSTRUCTURE
* SUPERSTRUCTURE
* SURFACESTRUCTURE
* USERDEFINED
* NOTDEFINED

**Parent \[Bridge/Superstructure/Deck/Substructure/Foundation/Approach\_Structure/Retaining\_Structure]:** The IFC Parent is specified using this parameter to define the hierarchy relationship in the IFC model.

# Agent Instructions: Querying This Documentation

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.openbrim.org/templates/steel-i-girder-bridge-workflow/substructure-sig/abutment-system-sig/strip-seal-sig.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
