# Arbitrary Polygon \[STG]

## Surface

A typical quadrilateral surface is generally suitable for various loading geometries, as it can define different transverse offsets for start and end stations. However, for other shapes such as an L-shaped loading, as illustrated in the example below, this particular object is more appropriate.

**Bridge:** By selecting the bridge object, the component will be able to identify the correct finite elements to use.

**Reference Point Station:** This station serves as the reference point for defining surface points, which will utilize it to calculate their final positions.

**Reference Point Transverse Offset:** This transverse offset as the reference point for defining surface points, which will utilize it to calculate their final positions.

**Surface Points:** Utilize the edit menu to specify surface points.

* **Longitudinal Distance from Reference Point:** Additional longitudinal station along the PGL from the reference point.
* **Transverse Offset from Reference Point:** Additional transverse offset perpendicular to PGL from the reference point.

**Rotation:** The rotation parameter is employed to rotate the polygon around its centroid.

## Graphics

This component serves solely for graphical representation to determine the elevation of the loading representation and has no impact on loading computations.

**Reference Elevation:** Elevation on the coordinate system where you wish to create a graphical loading surface.

**Elevation Coordinate System \[Alignment/Global]:** The Elevation Coordinate System is typically your alignment. However, if you have more than one alignment, please select the one you wish to use and input the elevation accordingly

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.openbrim.org/templates/steel-tub-girder-bridge-workflow/loading-stg/load-geometry-definitions-stg/surface-stg/arbitrary-polygon-stg.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
